When was the last time you really laughed? Being a single mum with a lot to juggle, it’s probably been a very long time. If that's the case, then it's time to shift your balance from serious to fun!

Laughter is essential for you to have a good quality of life. The stresses of daily life can be overwhelming and unless you have some release mechanism, your physical and mental health will decline. There have been many studies conducted on the effects of laughter on cancer patients and those that suffer depression. In both counts, laughter has reduced the stress hormone, Cortisol, and increased the feel- good hormone, serotonin, dramatically improving the health of these patients. So laughter really is the best medicine.

A good sense of humour is essential to manage the bumps in your life.  With a different pair of eyes, you can view your situation differently and see the humour in it. Most of life has a quirky twist to it, so try and find the funny side of life.  You’ll be able to brush things off much more quickly and relax. 

A good sense of humour will help you to view your life more objectively rather than be the centre of its problems.  When we laugh, we relax and let go. You are literally laughing yourself free of the ropes that tie you down. When you laugh, you find renewed hope, allowing you to find new ways of doing old things and lightening your load.

So think of ways to make yourself smile and laugh. Hire a funny movie, visit a friend who you know can always makes you laugh, buy a funny book or head off to a local comedy night. They are in most pubs weekly. Some of the greatest laughs come from comedians who help us see the funny side of everyday life.

Make the time to laugh.
