Time For Change

Becoming a single parent might have been the catalyst you needed to change jobs. Quite often we stick to the same job, even if we don't particularly like it, because it's better the devil you know than the devil you don't. There is also a certain level of comfort of routine in a job that you been doing for a long time. Sometimes the only reason we change jobs is out of necessity, rather than desire. But this can often lead to positive changes.

The most obvious change is an increase in income. If you are leaving your job by choice, do your best to find a position that will offer you better pay. If you are looking for a job, from a job, you are in a good position to negotiate and seek a higher income than what you are currently on.

Changing jobs doesn't just necessarily bring you better income. If you plan well, it can also bring you closer to home, making it easier to spend more time with the kids and actually allow you to pick them up earlier from after-school care. So changing jobs becomes an improvement to your quality of time with your kids, rather than just a financial benefit.

It can also open you up to meeting new people, which at this time of your life is really important to your emotional and mental well-being. New colleagues don't know your past and therefore don't tend to make judgements on who you are. You can be the new fresh person you want and need to be, without all the shadows attached to you.

New work colleagues, new job challenges, new stimulations, new expectations all contribute to a new energy that will drive you forward. A change in job can often be the quantum shift that you need to propel you towards a better future for you and your children.
