You are undoubtedly exhausted - both physically and emotionally- from running the house and running around your kids. Yet now, because of Govt changes to benefits and because of your circumstances, you may have to find yourself a job. Feeling a little overwhelmed?

Well, here are three steps that will help lift your spirits, lift your confidence and substantially increase your chances of getting a job, hopefully one that you will love.

1. Smile

It sounds like such a basic thing to do, but it’s something that you probably haven't done in a very long time. Nobody likes to hang around with someone who is down, let alone hire them within their business. So you’ll need to find a way to lift your spirits and feel more positive about your return to work. Exercise is an excellent way to stimulate your serotonin levels, otherwise known as your happy hormones. Try taking a walk with the kids a few times a week, or if you can get some time out to yourself, try the gym or a dance class. No time for exercising? Borrow a comedy DVD from a friend and laugh! It's great for the stomach muscles and it's sure to make you smile.

2. Find Six Things You Do Well

Are you good with people? Do you have great customer service skills? Can you manage difficult negotiations? Have you good decision making skills? Can you work well under pressure? Can you juggle many tasks at the same time? This may sound like a high level management job, but guess what… I just outlined your job description as a mother! We both know there is no harder job than being a 24/7 mother. Recognise your abilities in this role and you will easily be able to apply them to a full-time job. Write your best six strengths now and remember to be proud of yourself. You are highly capable individual. You are a mother!

3. Write Yourself a Job Wish List

Not sure of the type of work you are looking for? The key is to find a job that you'd really like to do. If you do something that you enjoy, the likelihood is that you'll probably be very good at it. Write yourself a wish list. Think about hobbies and interests that make you smile. Think about the location where you would like to work, and the type of people you'd like to work with ie. children, aged, energetic or quiet? Do you have a second language that you could use in your new job or a special talent that you'd love to use? Write your wish list and then look for a job to match. It is that straightforward. And above all, believe it is possible! See yourself working in this environment, see yourself in that perfect job. I assure you it will make you smile and give you a far better chance of getting your dream job.
