Living By The Golden Rules

There are some fundamental rules to live by in order to have an organised and clean home. What is critical is that you involve your children in understanding these rules as they play a key part in keeping your home organised. It may sound like hard work keeping the kids involved, but it’s actually quite easy. Like any mantra, it just needs to be repeated over and over again until the message is absorbed.

So here are the Seven Golden Rules for an organised home.

  1. If you drop it, pick it up.
  2. If you get it out, put it away.
  3. If you open it, close it.
  4. If it's full, empty it.
  5. If it's dirty, clean it.
  6. If it's rubbish, throw it.
  7. If you don’t use it, get rid of it.

Print the list out and stick it up on the fridge. Have a family meeting to let your children know you mean business. The best way to get their involvement is not to tell them, but to engage them. So ask each of them for an example for each of the Seven Golden Rules and be sure to ask them for their commitment to creating a happy, cleaner and more organised home environment.
