Re-Decorating your Home

2_re-decorating.jpgStart with a Clean up

Don't even consider redecorating, until you have first cleaned up your house. You'll be amazed at how different your home can look once you have cleaned out your clutter, thrown out broken items, pieces of furniture and packed away. Only then will can you truly look at your house and assess where you need and want to redecorate.

Keep it Simple

Re-decorating really doesn't have to cost you much money at all. Sometimes all it takes is a new coat of paint on the walls, a splash of colour, moving some furniture around or even into another room. I moved a futon chair from our lounge room into my daughter's bedroom. It is now a reading chair for her, but it also acts as a spare bed when one of her friends has a sleepover. It's given her bedroom a warmer feel and has created more space in our lounge room. It’s a win: win for us both.

Get Your Children Involved

Your children are going through their own emotional turmoil, so it is highly important that they feel comfortable in their own bedroom. The lounge room also plays an important function as this is where you have your family time. Let your children know you're thinking of redecorating and you'd like their ideas on what things they like in the house and what things they don't. Get them to help you to place ads on EBay. Offer to give them a percentage of the sale that they can use the money to buy something for their room. Always remember it is their home too; the more they are involved in the changes, the more they will enjoy their new environment.
