Your Home 15-Minute Living Tips

Move Your Furniture Around

Move Your Furniture Around

It doesn't matter that at the moment, you don't have money to buy new furniture; simply move your furniture around your house and you will create a new feel to every room!

Do you have a spare chair in the lounge room? Move it to your bedroom and create a quiet space you can sit and read when the kids have gone to sleep.

Bored of looking at the same picture in the same room every day? Move things hanging on your walls, to other rooms and create a new atmosphere.

Anything that isn't nailed to the floor can be moved. Get your kids involved and have fun swapping.

De-Junk Your Bathroom

De-Junk Your Bathroom

Your bathroom should be a haven of relaxation and cleansing, not a shrine to out of date medicines and empty shampoo bottles! Every season, it's a good idea to de-junk your bathroom cabinet.

Grab a plastic bag. Throw out everything in your cabinet that is out of date, smells bad, is empty or you haven't used in the last year. That purple sparkly eye shadow is not going to look any better next year than last! Don't wait for it to come back into fashion; toss it!

Head down to a $2 shop and buy yourself some small, cheap plastic trays. You can colour coordinate them with your bathroom and they are perfect for grouping toiletries together. You can put your entire make up in one; creams and tubes in another; nail files scissors, tweezers in a third one; you get the idea. Everything will have its place and with order, comes relaxation.

Give Your Home a Health Check

A healthier home is a healthier you.

Spend 15 minutes walking around your home and jotting down the key areas that need to be fixed or sorted. Don't get disheartened. This is an exercise in getting your home healthy and feeling better when you're in it. The longer the list, the bigger the turnaround will be!

Then choose just one thing on that list and decide how you are going to get that fixed, by who, and most importantly, set a date to make it happen. Pick up the phone and book it in.

You are on your way to creating a better home in which to live. Well done!

Re-Energise Your Home

A light home is a happy home.

As soon as you wake up, make it a habit to open all the blinds and curtains throughout your home. If possible, open up your windows and doors and let fresh, crisp air flow through your home. If that's not an option, light some incense or essential oils to invigorate you. The fragrance will linger throughout the day and will welcome you when you come home at night.

NB. Make sure it's extinguished when you leave home.

Clean Up Clutter Hotspots

A chaotic home is a chaotic mind. You need to get rid of the hotspots.

Note where the chaos is in your home. Are there tables and corners where you continually build up letters and bills? Is your ironing basket overflowing? Where are your chaos hotspots in your house?

Choose just one hotspot. Get a timer and give yourself EXACTLY 15 MINUTES to clean up that hotspot. Be ruthless. Throw things out, bag it, shred it or put things away. You'll feel great for getting rid of one hot spot and creating a calm spot.

Romance Your Home

Why not give your home some flowers?

Your home is your safe haven and it's time to make it feel special. Whether you pick some flowers from your own garden, some from a friend's garden or buy a flowering pot plant, bring some colour into your home and your life!

Yellow flowers are particularly good for lifting spirits, red for feeling loved and white for cleansing and freshness. Choose whatever makes you feel good. Pop them in to your bedroom, in your living room and your children’s bedrooms.

Refresh Your Bathroom

A clean, fresh bathroom means clean, fresh energy!

You usually start your day or end your day in the bathroom. So make sure every time you enter it, you leave feeling good.

If your bathroom has a window, make sure it is open as much as possible to let fresh air in and bad smells out. Grow plenty of plants in your bathroom to help generate good energy and air flow.

Let Your Bedroom Lull You to Sleep

A good night sleep will boost your energy.

Fifteen minutes before you go to sleep, light a lavender candle or burn some essential lavender oil in your bedroom. Turn off the lights and shut the door to keep the fragrance enclosed. Then go to the bathroom and start preparing for bed.

When you enter your room 15 minutes later, you will be walking into the most beautifully relaxing, fragrant environment that will guarantee a peaceful night's sleep. Blow out your candle and during the night, with your door ajar, the lavender fragrance will gently flow into the rest of your home, relaxing you and your children.

Cleanse Your Home

Give your home some “moving forward” energy!

Now that your ex has left, it's time to remove all his negative energy and bring in wonderful new, fresh, positive energy!

A great way to do this is to burn some dried sage, which releases wonderful aromatic space cleansers. Or you can simply burn your favorite incense or essential oil to rebalance your home and improve your emotional state.

Then at night, light your favorite aromatic candle and let the glow of the flame heal your spirit.
