Single Mums Unite
One of the books I am keen to write about is on the topic of single mothers. I have been interviewing single mums in Australia for the past two years, trying to further understand what drives one woman to move forward and another to stay stuck. I really want to assist single mothers in moving forward, not only for their sake, but also for their children.
Our children are our gift. I have said this many times before. If we don’t take care of ourselves then who will look after our children? As single mothers, we have to battle the social stigma attached to us, and develop the skills and self-belief to manage all aspects of our family breakdown. Only then, can we successfully re-create our lives with a positive and healthy attitude. Only this way, can we calmly manage our children’s journey through divorce.
The only way is forward.
I have found my own way forward. It works. But what about all the other women out there who have struggled badly at some point but are now creating strong lives for themselves and their kids? I wanted to hear their stories and share them with you, so that you too can make the transition from married life to single parenthood with greater ease and confidence.
One of my wishes, though, was to hear the stories from other courageous women around the world. It’s one of the main reasons I’m in Oxford. Over the next few weeks, I’m interviewing single mums from England and Scotland, trying to see where the similarities lie. Undoubtedly there will be differences, but I think emotions unite the single mothers of the world and there will be many more similarities than differences. I’m sure we can learn from each other. I’ll let you know what happens.
I’m excited that so many single mothers want to share their stories. It’s that camaraderie between single mums that draws us together, no matter where we are in the world. We’re a wonderful lot, aren’t we? We are strong, determined, and with one positive direction; we are Mothers Moving Forward!
